At Designer Bums, we are all about protecting the environment, and our babies bottoms. That's why our nappies are reusable, environmentally friendly and made only with materials that are breathable and kind to babies sensitive skin. Our nappies work just like disposables only they are better for baby and are simply adorable!
Our OSFM Pocket Nappies have a 100% cotton designer outer, backed with a hidden layer of PUL and are lined with silky soft suedecloth. Insert packs are available to purchase separately. The insert packs include two inserts made of 3 layers each of the most absorbent bamboo fleece available- you will probably only need one of these for a small baby and use both as your baby gets older and becomes a heavier wetter.
Because our nappies have a hidden layer of PUL (polyurethane laminate), they are fine to use on their own and do not require covers of any sort. Our nappies are recommended for daytime use and will typically last 3-4 hours. They may last longer than this however to prevent nappy rash we recommend that you change your baby every 2-4 hours.
Our OSFM nappies are designed to fit babies from approx 3.5kg all the way through to toilet training. For a small baby, simply 'snap up' the nappy to the smallest size, adjusting the snaps to enlarge the nappy as baby grows. Stuff the pocket of the nappy with insert/s and fasten to baby just the same as you would a disposable. All set!
Our inserts are sold separately and come in a pack of two super thirsty tri-layer bamboo fleece inserts - a small insert & a larger insert. Bamboo fleece is a natural fibre that is antibacterial and hypoallergenic so is fantastic for nappy use. We use only the best quality bamboo available. For a new baby, you will only need to use the small insert - simply snap the front of the nappy down to the smallest size, slide the insert into the pocket opening and fasten the nappy on baby. For a larger baby you will need to use both. Before inserting into the pocket opening, simply fold over the top end of the longer insert so that it becomes the same length as the small insert. Lay the smaller one on top, hold them together in place with one hand, open the pocket of the nappy with the other and stuff the inserts down into the pocket until your hand reaches the other end of the nappy.
Care & Washing
MAXIMUM RECOMMENDED WASHING MACHINE SPIN SPEED IS 1000RPM. ANYTHING HIGHER THAN THIS WILL RUIN YOUR NAPPIES AND VOID THE WARRANTY.
Before washing, fold velcro tabs directly back onto the laundry tabs (these are the rectangular pieces of suedecloth with a criss-cross sewing design. They will adhere and prevent nappy sticking to everything else in the wash. We recommend scraping any solids into the toilet and storing nappies in a lidded dry-pail between washes. This will keep nappies in pristine condition and limit smells. When your baby's poo starts to become more solid, you may want to use a flushable, biodegradable liner in the nappy which makes disposing of solids much easier. Please do not soak our nappies in chemicals of any sort before washing as this will shorten the life-span of your nappy. Do not add bleach, napisan or fabric softener when washing your nappies as they can coat the nappy and in turn it will be less absorbent and not function properly.
We recommend washing nappies every 2-3 days using only 1/3 of additive-free washing powder that you would normally use. Simply run nappies through a pre-rinse followed by a cold or warm wash (max 40 degrees). Never run nappies through a hot wash as this can damage nappy fibres. If your bub has particularly sensitive skin, we would recommend running another final rinse however that is up to you. Once nappies have been washed, hang them on the line to dry. If you need the nappies quickly, it is OK to run the inserts through a warm tumble dryer however do not tumble dry the outers as it will damage the PUL.
All of our nappies come with a one year warranty on workmanship and materials. If the nappies are soaked in chemicals of any sort, the warranty is immediately void.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or comments on our nappies.
